SAN ANTONIO – A tragic incident unfolded at a nursing home in San Antonio, where a disagreement over room temperature led to a deadly shooting on Sunday afternoon. According to a report from the San Antonio Police Department, the argument may have escalated to violence, resulting in the death of a resident.

The suspect, Manuel Espinoza, 50, was visiting his mother at the Westover Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center when the incident occurred just before 5 p.m. During his visit, Espinoza became involved in a conflict with another resident, identified as Liceaga, who shared a room with his mother. The two women had been disputing the temperature in their shared living space, a common issue that can arise in close quarters.

Following the argument, a staff member reported hearing the commotion coming from the room but could not understand the specifics as the conversation was in Spanish. Shortly thereafter, other employees heard a loud noise, which turned out to be a gunshot.

One of the staff members discovered Liceaga bleeding in her room and attempted to provide first aid. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.

Witnesses were able to describe Espinoza’s appearance to the police, who quickly located him about a quarter-mile away from the nursing home. He was arrested and now faces a murder charge.

In the aftermath of this tragic event, security measures were visibly heightened at the nursing facility, with guards patrolling the area and signs indicating that weapons are not allowed on the premises. A receptionist at the facility declined to comment on the incident.

Court records reveal that Espinoza has a history of violent behavior, with previous arrests for assault and family violence. This raises concerns about the safety and security of residents in nursing homes, which are meant to be places of care and comfort for the elderly.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly disagreements can escalate into violence, highlighting the importance of communication and conflict resolution, especially in shared living environments. As the investigation continues, the community is left to grapple with the implications of this tragic event.
