SAN ANTONIO – A military contractor named Zachry Wade Carroll is currently in federal court facing some serious charges related to a lost classified document and firearms found at a local Air Force base.
Carroll, who is 47 years old, was arrested over the weekend after the FBI issued warrants for his arrest. According to records from the Comal County Jail, he was booked on Saturday.
The charges against him include one count of losing defense information, one count of providing false information, and two counts of possessing firearms in federal facilities. These allegations stem from an investigation that began back in April 2025.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) claims that Carroll lost a classified national defense document and failed to report this loss to his superior officer. This is a serious issue because handling classified information is crucial for national security.
In addition to the lost document, the DOJ alleges that Carroll was found carrying a .380 caliber firearm while working at Joint Base San Antonio – Kelly Annex. When authorities searched his vehicle on the base, they reportedly discovered a loaded AR-15, a 9mm handgun, and several rounds of ammunition.
Interestingly, despite the evidence, Carroll has denied carrying a handgun at the time. The stakes are high for him; if convicted on all counts, he could face up to 17 years in prison.
This case highlights the importance of security and accountability in military settings, especially when it comes to handling sensitive information and firearms. As the investigation continues, it serves as a reminder of the critical role that trust plays in the defense sector.
