SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs are not just making headlines on the court; they are also creating a buzz in local bars and restaurants, significantly impacting the city’s economy. At McIntyre’s Southtown, a popular local venue, general manager David Nelson shared that the current sales figures are “unprecedented.” He noted, “It’s huge. We’ve never seen numbers quite like this. It’s brought a lot of people out, people I’ve never seen before. It’s helped the business.”

As the Spurs gear up for another exciting season, fans have been flocking to their favorite gathering spots to watch games, creating a vibrant atmosphere throughout the city. “All the bars are going to be packed, all the restaurants, anywhere you can watch the games at,” said Spurs fan Ashley Ventura. This surge in attendance is more than just a local phenomenon; it reflects the Spurs’ ability to draw in out-of-town fans as well.

David Gonzalez from Visit San Antonio explained that on average, 10% to 20% of the seats at the Frost Bank Center are booked by visitors during home games. This influx of fans contributes not only to the excitement of game nights but also to the local economy, as these visitors often spend money on hotel accommodations, dining, and exploring the city. Gonzalez emphasized, “It benefits everybody to have the Spurs winning.”

The appeal of the Spurs extends beyond the local fanbase. “Most importantly, it gets tourists to come in. In the playoffs, we had people here from Minnesota, and of course, all the New York fans were here,” said Spurs fan Nicolas Ventura. The experience of mingling with visitors from different regions enhances the local culture and fosters a sense of community pride.

For many fans, the anticipation of the season is palpable. Joey Rea, another Spurs enthusiast, reflected on the previous season’s heartbreak and expressed eagerness for the upcoming games, stating, “It was a heartbreaker at the end of the season, so we’re excited to be back. Can’t wait.” The emotional connection Spurs fans have with their team not only showcases their loyalty but also illustrates how sports can unite communities and stimulate local economies.
