SAN ANTONIO – Recently, a significant settlement was reached involving the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) after a serious car accident. SAWS has agreed to pay $150,000 to Ryan Villanueva, a man who was injured in a collision with a SAWS vehicle.
The accident occurred in September 2023 when Villanueva’s truck was rear-ended by a SAWS Ford Escort at the intersection of E. Ramsey Road and Jones Maltsberger Road. As a result of the crash, Villanueva suffered severe injuries, including four herniated discs, a separated shoulder, and a sprained knee.
Due to his injuries, Villanueva experienced significant pain, with herniated discs pressing on nerves in his back. He also faced ongoing shoulder and knee problems, which required him to undergo costly medical treatments, such as platelet-rich plasma injections.
In an effort to seek justice, Villanueva filed a lawsuit against SAWS and the employee involved, Michael Wildman, last year. Initially, his attorney attempted to negotiate a settlement of $500,000, citing nearly $113,000 in medical expenses already incurred and an additional $276,000 in projected future medical costs for further procedures.
This case highlights the serious consequences that can result from car accidents and the importance of seeking legal action when injuries occur. Villanueva’s situation serves as a reminder of the potential financial impact of medical bills and rehabilitation following an accident.
As of now, Villanueva’s attorney has not provided any further comments regarding the settlement. This case underscores the need for safe driving practices and the responsibility of utility companies to ensure their employees operate vehicles safely.
