Longtime CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour is making a big change after an impressive 43 years with the network. She has been a significant figure in journalism, known for her insightful reporting and interviews on global issues.
Starting in 2027, Amanpour will reduce her daily show, “Amanpour,” on CNN International to just once a week. She plans to end the show completely by the end of May and will leave CNN the following month. In her statement, she expressed excitement about “interesting new projects down the line.”
At 68 years old, Amanpour will also conclude her PBS program, “Amanpour and Company,” by the end of this year. However, she will continue her podcast, “The Ex Files,” where she chats with her ex-husband, Jamie Rubin, who is a former U.S. diplomat.
She reflected on her time at CNN, stating, “After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!” Amanpour also emphasized her ongoing support for CNN’s commitment to independent journalism, encouraging others to “always be truthful, not neutral.”
Amanpour’s exit comes at a transformative time for CNN. The network is now under new ownership after Skydance completed its $81 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on October 6. This merger combines two major television news organizations, CBS and CNN, under one roof.
On a personal note, Amanpour has openly discussed her battle with ovarian cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2021. She has urged others to prioritize their health by getting regular screenings, referring to cancer as “the invisible killer.”
