CIBOLO, Texas – Last weekend, the vibrant streets of Main Street came alive with the annual Cibolofest, a 12-hour extravaganza that brought together families, delicious food, and lively entertainment. With over 150 craft and food vendors, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

“Cibolo has always been very inviting. So that’s why we decided to come back this year,” said attendee Renee Rodgers, highlighting the community spirit that defines this beloved festival. The beautiful weather added to the joy, making it a perfect day for a celebration.

Many attendees seized the opportunity to kick off their holiday shopping. Shannon Piles, who represented Critter Crafts, mentioned, “I enjoy it because there’s just so many vendors. I can go and I can shop, get some Christmas gifts, some stocking stuffers, and just be prepared for the holiday.” This sentiment reflects the festival’s dual purpose as a fun outing and a shopping opportunity.

The history of Cibolofest dates back over two decades. According to Margarita Hernandez, Cibolo’s assistant public works director, the festival began as a simple community supper at Niemietz Park. “The community would come on a Friday, and then Saturday they would start the Cibolofest,” she explained, showcasing how the event has evolved over the years.

City Manager Wayne Reed, who attended his sixth Cibolofest this year, noted that the event continues to grow, attracting larger crowds each time. “What we have seen is larger crowds,” he stated, reinforcing the festival’s rising popularity.

This year, the carnival was twice as big as in previous years, introducing new attractions like a train ride, petting zoo, and pony rides, ensuring that families had plenty of activities to enjoy together.

Reed emphasized the city’s commitment to keeping the festival accessible. “The only thing that costs money is a $10 wristband to ride the carnival rides all day long,” he explained, making it affordable for families to enjoy the festivities.

A unique highlight this year was the participation of the San Antonio Kite Organization, which showcased giant kites throughout the day and evening. “We’re talking about kites that are bigger than me,” Reed mentioned, pointing out the impressive sight of a giant whale and characters like Snoopy soaring in the sky.

To enhance convenience, Steele High School offered free parking, with shuttles running every 10 minutes to transport visitors to the festival. Cibolo’s special events coordinator, Amy Pinder, added that there were ADA-accessible shuttles and pet-friendly options, ensuring everyone could join in the fun.

As the day came to an end, attendees were treated to a spectacular fireworks show at 9:45 p.m., concluding the festival with a bang before wrapping up at 10 p.m. Cibolofest continues to be a cherished tradition, bringing the community together in celebration, creativity, and fun.
