BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A tragic event unfolded this week in Bexar County, where 24-year-old Ian Torme Riles has been identified as the suspect in the death of his girlfriend, 22-year-old Jessica Aileen Villanueva. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has classified the investigation as a murder-suicide.
On Wednesday, Riles allegedly shot Villanueva, and the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled her death a homicide. According to reports, deputies discovered Villanueva deceased and Riles in “grave condition” at a residence located on Overview Place. Sheriff Javier Salazar disclosed that Riles had turned the gun on himself after the incident.
Initially, Sheriff Salazar indicated that the situation was being investigated as a murder-suicide. However, it was reported that Riles was still alive as of Thursday evening. Unfortunately, the following day, BCSO confirmed that Riles had passed away, with the medical examiner’s office still conducting an autopsy.
Villanueva and Riles were believed to be in a relationship, and she had recently been visiting from Doane University in Crete, Nebraska. The university expressed its sorrow in a heartfelt statement shared on social media, mourning the loss of a vibrant and talented student.
“Doane is saddened by the tragic loss of senior Jessica Villanueva earlier this week. Jessica was a vibrant, bright, young woman and we all miss her very much. Information resources and support have been sent to faculty, staff and students. As we navigate this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with Jessica’s family in Texas and all her friends here in our community,” the statement read.
