THIRSTY THURSDAY | WILHELM & WERNER
229 S Castell Ave, New Braunfels, TX 78130
Wilhelm & Werner is a unique bar and dining concept located in New Braunfels, Texas, nestled inside the historic Faust Hotel. With nearly a century of history, this speakeasy-style venue offers a large bar, casual lounge spaces, and outdoor seating, all with full service.
The cocktail menu is extensive and each drink is crafted with care. A highlight is the Mary Pickford, a classic cocktail from the 1920s that blends pineapple juice with maraschino liqueur. For those who enjoy bourbon, the Four Roses bourbon is infused with beef tallow overnight for a unique flavor. Additionally, brunch favorites like mimosas and bloody marys are also available. The standout drink, however, is Dre’s Avocado Margarita, which uses house-made avocado jam and combines it with mezcal, agave, lime juice, tequila, lemon juice, and orange liqueur for a smoky, refreshing twist.

MEAL DEALS | TAMALES
The holiday season in San Antonio means tamales for many families. The Texas Eats team set out to discover the best store-brand pork tamales. David Elder started with Walmart’s offering, which lacked seasoning and overall flavor. Next, he tried Whole Foods’ tamales, which were praised for their great texture and seasoning. Lastly, he tested HEB tamales, a staple for many San Antonians. While they were cost-effective, the masa-to-pork ratio was off, resulting in less pork than desired. Ultimately, Whole Foods took the crown for the best flavor and texture, while HEB was the most budget-friendly option.
