LOS ANGELES – The 78th Emmy Awards are finally here, and excitement is in the air! This year, two shows are generating a lot of buzz: “The Pitt” and “Widow’s Bay.” The ceremony will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, and fans can’t wait to see who will take home the coveted awards.
Mariska Hargitay, well-known for her role in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and a three-time Emmy winner herself, will be hosting the event on NBC. To celebrate NBC’s 100th anniversary, the red carpet has been replaced with a vibrant peacock blue carpet.
The ceremony will also celebrate some iconic shows, marking the 30th anniversary of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the 50th anniversary of “Charlie’s Angels.” Cast members from these shows will be among the presenters, adding to the nostalgic atmosphere.
For those wanting to catch the action, the Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on NBC and available for streaming on Peacock at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific. In the running for the top awards, “The Pitt” has made quite a name for itself. This real-time emergency room drama on HBO Max was a surprising winner last year, taking home the awards for best drama, best actor for Noah Wyle, and best supporting actress for Katherine LaNasa. This year, it’s expected to repeat its success, with Wyle himself nominated for three awards.
On the comedy side, “Hacks” has garnered the most nominations for its fifth and final season, and star Jean Smart is a favorite to win best actress in a comedy yet again.
However, the Apple TV series “Widow’s Bay” is also making waves, coming into the night with eight wins from earlier ceremonies. It has the potential to break records, as it could win up to six more awards, surpassing the record of 13 Emmys for a comedy in a season set by “The Studio” last year.
Matthew Rhys, the star of “Widow’s Bay,” is among the favorites for best actor in a comedy, while breakout star Kate O’Flynn is a strong contender for best supporting actress.
Rhea Seehorn, known for her role in Apple TV’s “Pluribus,” is also in the running for her first Emmy for best actress in a drama. She faces tough competition from Zendaya, who has already won for her role in “Euphoria” in previous seasons.
The night could also mark a significant milestone for 84-year-old Harrison Ford, who is favored to win his first major competitive Hollywood award for best supporting actor in a comedy for his role in “Shrinking.”
