SAN ANTONIO – Watching the Spurs this season could become more expensive for some fans, as the team has moved its local media rights to streaming service DAZN. This significant shift marks a new era for Spurs fans who have long relied on traditional cable packages to watch their favorite team.
The transition officially severs ties for the Silver and Black with their longtime home of FanDuel Sports Southwest, previously known as Bally Sports Southwest and Fox Sports Southwest, which announced it was ceasing operations after last season. This change reflects a broader trend in sports broadcasting, where streaming services are becoming increasingly dominant.
For the first time in several seasons, Spurs fans will no longer be able to access a majority of the team’s regular-season games through their cable bundle. Instead, they will need to turn to DAZN for much of the 2026-27 season. “You know, it’s the way everything’s gone. So I’m kind of accustomed to it,” commented Spurs fan Tim Kaine, highlighting the acceptance of this new viewing reality.
DAZN offers two subscription tiers: the base tier includes all regular-season games not exclusive to national television, while the ultimate tier provides alternate streams and camera views. The total price for the season is $119.99 and $139.99, respectively. However, to watch all the Spurs’ games this season, fans will have to subscribe to additional services.
The cost to watch every tipoff
The Spurs will play a league maximum of 34 games on national platforms during the 2026-27 season. The league recently announced that five more games will air on NBA TV. Additionally, twelve of those games will be on streaming platforms, and eight more will require either a cable subscription or subscribing to ESPN’s direct-to-consumer service.
If fans choose to subscribe to all the services that will broadcast Spurs games this season for six months, the total cost would be just shy of $480. This substantial amount may lead many to reconsider their viewing options.
You might save… by keeping your bundle
The Spurs will play two Peacock-exclusive games this season, but it’s worth noting that these games will also be available on NBC Sports Network. Currently, NBC Sports Network is only available on YouTube TV in San Antonio. However, existing subscribers will not have to purchase another subscription to watch these games.
Watch the Spurs on your local station!
The Spurs also announced that they will offer 22 games over-the-air through a local broadcast partner, which will be confirmed at a later date. Fans can consider using antennas, which are available for as cheap as $10 and provide access to dozens of local television channels. For those interested, there are numerous resources available for setting up an antenna effectively.
Churn baby, churn!
The Spurs will not play on each streaming service every month. This means fans can choose to subscribe only when there is a game and then cancel when they no longer need the service. This strategy, known as “churning,” can be an effective way to keep costs low while not compromising on viewing options.
If you plan to use a streaming service consistently beyond the NBA season, consider opting for an annual subscription. Many services offer discounts for upfront payments, which can lead to savings over the course of the year.
Watch games with your fellow fans
For those who enjoy the gameday atmosphere, many Spurs games are broadcast inside local sports bars and restaurants, providing an opportunity to watch alongside friends and fellow fans without incurring the high costs of home subscriptions.
Look for discounts
Many streaming services offer discounts for new subscribers, returning subscribers, or even for those who subscribe through third-party cash back platforms, such as Rakuten, or in mobile banking apps. Some services provide discounts to active-duty service members, veterans, first responders, or students. It’s wise to check for any available discounts before subscribing, as this can lead to significant savings.
The Spurs organization is also offering a 20% discount to season ticket holders for their annual subscription. Additional discounts and promotions will be available throughout the season, as DAZN has indicated, including a 7-day free trial at the beginning of the season.
For fans eager to learn more about the new streaming service, DAZN has not yet launched it, but further information is available on their website.
