UVALDE, Texas – The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) Board of Trustees has made a significant decision regarding its leadership by selecting Juan Hinojosa as the district’s lone finalist for the position of superintendent. This announcement came during a special board meeting held on Thursday, where the board voted unanimously in favor of Hinojosa.

Hinojosa has been serving as the interim superintendent of Uvalde CISD since March 2026, a role that has allowed him to navigate the complexities of the district’s challenges. His previous experience includes serving as the executive director at Harlandale Independent School District in San Antonio, and he was also the principal of Harlandale Middle School. This background has equipped him with a deep understanding of the educational landscape and the needs of the community.

Jesse Rizo, president of the Uvalde CISD Board of Trustees, emphasized Hinojosa’s qualifications by stating, “Dr. Hinojosa understands the complexities and magnitude of the challenges ahead for UCISD and the community.” This endorsement highlights the trust and confidence the board has in Hinojosa’s ability to lead the district effectively.

Under Texas state law, there is a mandatory 21-day waiting period before a finalist can be officially hired as superintendent. This period ensures that the community and stakeholders have an opportunity to engage with the process. Hinojosa’s contract is anticipated to begin on September 17, marking the start of a new chapter for Uvalde CISD.

As Uvalde CISD moves forward, the selection of Hinojosa reflects a commitment to leadership that prioritizes understanding the community’s needs and addressing the educational challenges that lie ahead. With his extensive background and dedication, Hinojosa is poised to make a positive impact on the district and its students.
