HOUSTON – In a dramatic turn of events, Houston police officers sought the assistance of a rideshare driver, Anthony Baines, during a pursuit of a man who had threatened to shoot a mother and her two children. This unusual collaboration unfolded as Baines was about to pick up a customer when he noticed a shirtless man sprinting down the street with two police officers in hot pursuit.
Baines described the incident as one of the craziest experiences of his life. The second officer in the chase approached Baines and asked if he could give them a ride to catch the suspect, who was running fast and creating a significant gap between himself and the officers.
“I felt that it would make sense for them to get in a vehicle and pursue the suspect because he was extremely fast,” Baines explained. “I didn’t think they would be able to catch him on foot.”
According to the Houston Police Department, the incident stemmed from the man becoming upset over a suspected theft. When officers attempted to detain him, he fled, prompting the chase.
