SAN ANTONIO – A significant breakthrough has occurred in a decades-old murder case. A man named Kelly Lee Brower Sr., who is now 68 years old, has been charged with capital murder for the 1981 killing of a 23-year-old woman named Yolanda Herrera. This case, which remained unsolved for over four decades, has finally seen some resolution.

Brower was arrested in Cottonwood, Arizona, on a Wednesday after investigators connected him to the crime through DNA evidence. Interestingly, he was already in custody for an unrelated charge when the match was made. This development highlights the importance of forensic science in solving cold cases.

Yolanda Herrera was last seen on the night of April 11, 1981, when she left Johnny’s Inn, a local bar in Universal City. Witnesses reported that she was walking away from the bar in the early morning hours. Tragically, her body was discovered two days later, in a field near the 500 block of East Aviation Drive.

An autopsy revealed that Yolanda had suffered multiple injuries, leading to a determination of homicide. Furthermore, evidence suggested that she may have been sexually assaulted prior to her death. This case serves as a somber reminder of the impact of violence and the importance of justice for victims and their families.

The investigation into Yolanda’s murder highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to solve cold cases. Thanks to advancements in DNA technology, cases that once seemed hopeless can find new life. The Universal City Police Department, along with other agencies, continue to seek justice for victims and their loved ones, proving that no case is ever truly closed.
