LOS ANGELES – Hayden Panettiere, a beloved actress known for her roles in hit TV shows like “Heroes” and “Nashville,” has sadly passed away at the age of 36.
The announcement came from her father, Skip, who shared the heartbreaking news with ABC News on Sunday.
In his statement, Skip Panettiere expressed, “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”
As of now, no cause of death has been confirmed, and a representative for Hayden has not yet responded to inquiries from the media.
Panettiere began her acting career as a child, appearing in commercials and soap operas, before rising to fame in 2006 with her role as Claire Bennet, a cheerleader with superpowers in the hit series “Heroes.” The show was known for its catchy tagline, “Save the cheerleader, save the world.”
She once described “Heroes” as a unique blend of reality and sci-fi, saying, “It’s just a really great combination of everything that people love.” Her performance earned her three Teen Choice Awards and a Grammy nomination for a children’s spoken word album after the animated release of “A Bug’s Life.”
Later, Panettiere took on the role of Juliette Barnes, an ambitious country singer, in the series “Nashville.” The show, which aired on ABC for four seasons before being revived on CMT, showcased her singing talent, leading to several songs that charted on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs. Her performances in the series earned her two Golden Globe nominations.
Tragically, Panettiere’s younger brother, Jansen, who was also an actor, passed away earlier this year at age 28 due to a heart condition.
Throughout her life, Panettiere was candid about her battles with alcohol addiction and depression, particularly following the birth of her daughter in 2014. In a podcast interview, she discussed the custody arrangement for her daughter, who lives full-time with her father, Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko. She clarified misconceptions regarding her custody decision, emphasizing that it was a mutual agreement based on her struggles with mental health.
In 2015, while filming “Nashville,” she entered rehab, stating, “I was the one who put myself in the first treatment center. I was drowning.” Her openness about these challenges helped raise awareness about mental health issues.
Panettiere was not only a talented actress but also ventured into films, starring in two of the “Scream” movies and playing the lead in “I Love You Beth Cooper.” She also had a memorable role in “Remember the Titans,” where she portrayed Sheryl Yoast, a character she related to deeply.
Her legacy as an actress and a person who bravely shared her struggles with mental health will be remembered by fans and loved ones alike.
