OXNARD, Calif. – In a significant move for both the player and the team, Von Miller is set to sign with the Dallas Cowboys, marking a return to his Texas roots. The renowned linebacker, who is currently the active leader in NFL sacks, is eager to join the Cowboys even before the team concludes its training camp in California.
The agreement between Miller and the Cowboys is a one-year contract, making it his third team in three seasons. Miller, who has had a storied career in the NFL, is expected to arrive on the West Coast this coming Monday to begin his transition to the team.
Currently, the Cowboys have only two full practices remaining during their annual three-week training camp in California, which will wrap up soon before their second preseason game against Arizona on Saturday. Following this, practices will resume in Texas next week.
Miller’s impressive career includes a staggering 138 1/2 sacks accumulated over 14 seasons. Last year, during his time with the Washington Commanders, he recorded nine sacks, a noteworthy achievement given the challenges he faced after being cut by the Buffalo Bills due to salary cap constraints.
The 37-year-old linebacker has deep roots in Texas; he attended high school south of Dallas and later excelled at Texas A&M. He was drafted second overall by the Denver Broncos in 2011, where he garnered significant accolades, including being named Super Bowl MVP when the Broncos triumphed in 2015 against the Seattle Seahawks.
In addition to his Super Bowl MVP award, Miller clinched another championship with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, solidifying his status as one of the elite players in the league. His remarkable journey began with an impressive debut season where he earned the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year title, recording 11 1/2 sacks.
Despite recent seasons being marred by injuries and a domestic violence case that led to a four-game suspension, Miller’s performance with the Commanders was noteworthy, as he achieved his highest sack total since his second Super Bowl-winning year.
