Big news in the world of superheroes! Spider-Man has swung past the Avengers at the box office with his latest film, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” This new Spider-Man movie shattered records by earning a whopping $360 million in its opening weekend across theaters in the U.S. and Canada, according to Sony Pictures.
Initially, Sony projected that the film would bring in around $355 million, just shy of the previous record held by “Avengers: Endgame,” which opened with $357 million back in 2019. However, the excitement on the final day of the weekend pushed Spider-Man ahead of those expectations!
Tom Rothman, the chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, expressed pride in this accomplishment, stating, “Records are made to be broken, but we will take great pride in this one, for as long as we hold it.”

Before “Avengers: Endgame,” no movie had ever opened with over $300 million in the U.S. The previous record holders were “Avengers: Infinity War” with $257 million in 2018, and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which had a debut of $247 million in 2015. Even during the pandemic, the third Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland, “No Way Home,” managed to earn a spot on the record list with a $260 million opening, ultimately grossing $1.9 billion worldwide.
The successful launch of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, alongside another film titled “The Odyssey,” which features actors Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal, contributed to a record-breaking weekend for theaters in the U.S. and Canada.
As reported by Rentrak, the overall domestic box office is showing impressive growth, up over 15% from last year, with ticket sales exceeding $6.2 billion to date. This surge indicates that audiences are returning to theaters in droves, eager to experience the thrill of blockbuster films.
