SABINAL, Texas – Heavy rain on Tuesday led to significant flooding and travel disruptions across Sabinal, raising concerns for both residents and local officials.
Drivers faced challenges throughout the day as they navigated through standing water, rapidly flowing creeks, and flooded roadways. Many had to adjust their travel plans or even turn back upon encountering impassable routes.
The sudden deluge also transformed yards, pastures, and ranch land into temporary lakes. While some property owners welcomed the moisture, they expressed surprise at the sheer volume of rainfall that fell within such a short timeframe, prompting them to monitor low-lying areas that are susceptible to flooding closely.
“My husband was waving his arms out the window, trying to get the cars to stop,” recounted one resident. “All it takes is one swoop and you’re going down.” Such sentiments illustrate the urgent concerns of the community regarding road safety in the face of sudden weather changes.
Local officials are on standby and prepared to respond should conditions worsen. Mayor Erik Gomez highlighted the importance of communication during adverse weather conditions, urging residents to stay informed and to avoid flooded roads, especially when familiar routes may no longer be safe.
