LA FRITE BELGIAN BISTRO

728 S Alamo St, San Antonio, TX 78205

La Frite Belgian Bistro is not just any restaurant; it’s a cultural experience right in San Antonio’s Southtown. For the past 17 years, this bistro has welcomed guests into a cozy atmosphere that encourages conversation and connection, reminiscent of European dining culture. Owners want everyone to feel at home in what they proudly call San Antonio’s European dining room.

At the heart of La Frite is Executive Chef Luis Nahara, whose kitchen is famed for its delectable mussels. Sourced fresh from Prince Edward Island three times a week, the restaurant serves over 200 pounds of these succulent shellfish weekly! However, the menu doesn’t stop there. Diners can also enjoy a refreshing Belgian endive salad, a classic steak au poivre, or a rich duck confit—one of the few places in San Antonio where you can find it consistently. Plus, daily prix fixe specials keep the menu exciting and encourage patrons to return often.

CANDY’S OLD FASHION BURGERS

115 Plaza De Armas, Ste 107, San Antonio, TX 78205

Candy’s Old Fashion Burgers is a beloved downtown San Antonio eatery that has been serving up delicious, classic burgers since 2006. Founded by Tony Vasquez, whose passion for food was inspired by the iconic burger joints of his youth, this family-owned establishment has become a community staple. Today, Tony’s daughter, Melissa, runs the place, with her daughter helping out, making it a true family affair.

The burgers at Candy’s are made with 100% fresh, never-frozen local beef, cooked to perfection and served on toasted buns piled high with fresh toppings. A must-try is The Royale, featuring a juicy patty topped with crispy bacon and melted cheddar cheese. For those who crave a bit of heat, the jalapeño cheddar cheeseburger delivers with grilled jalapeños. However, the crowd favorite is undoubtedly the chili cheeseburger, smothered in house-made chili and gooey cheese that blends seamlessly into the burger. The menu also boasts hand-breaded shrimp, crispy tater tots, and other classic sides to round out a satisfying meal.
