BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Recently, a Bexar County Sheriff’s deputy made a life-saving decision by breaking into a car to rescue a 4-month-old baby left inside a dangerously hot vehicle. This incident took place on the West Side of Bexar County, highlighting a serious issue regarding child safety in vehicles.

According to the sheriff’s office, a juvenile was arrested in connection with the case. Sheriff Javier Salazar emphasized that temperatures inside parked vehicles can soar to life-threatening levels, especially during hot weather.

It’s crucial to understand that leaving children or pets unattended in vehicles can lead to severe consequences. Sheriff Salazar warned that such actions may result in arrests, jail time, and fines.

BCSO Responds to Dog Left in Vehicle

In a separate incident just a day earlier, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a dog left inside a vehicle at around 9:19 p.m. in the 4000 block of North Foster Road.

When deputies arrived, they found the owner on the scene, but sadly, the dog had already died. The owner, identified as 35-year-old Damaris Rebeca Herrera Aguilar, stated she had gone into a store for about an hour, leaving her dog inside the closed vehicle.

Damaris was subsequently arrested on charges of animal cruelty. This incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers posed by leaving pets and children unattended in vehicles.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office urges everyone to act responsibly. If you see a child or animal left alone in a vehicle, please call 911 immediately. Your quick response could save a life.
