According to preliminary reports from SAPD, the officer was traveling eastbound on East Southcross when a 37-year-old woman allegedly ran a red light, resulting in the crash. Following the collision, the officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Additionally, another individual was also taken to the hospital; however, it is not yet clear if this person was the suspect involved in the incident.

Authorities have indicated that the woman is likely to face charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI), a serious offense that endangers not only the driver but also other road users.

The investigation surrounding the crash is ongoing, with police working to gather more details about the incident. This case serves as a critical reminder of the dangers posed by impaired driving and the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers in their line of duty.
