MILWAUKEE – In a remarkable display of pitching prowess, Milwaukee Brewers’ Jacob Misiorowski delivered an unforgettable performance against the Philadelphia Phillies on the anniversary of his major league debut. The 24-year-old right-hander recorded 15 strikeouts and completed a one-hitter, leading the Brewers to a commanding 6-0 victory.

As Misiorowski took the mound for the ninth inning, the atmosphere surged with excitement. A capacity crowd of 40,205 rose to their feet, celebrating what would soon be one of the most distinguished outings in franchise history. “When I walked out for the ninth, my whole body shivered and the adrenaline really kicked in,” he remarked, reflecting on the moment.

In a show of sheer dominance, Misiorowski struck out Justin Crawford to seal the game, raising his hands in triumph as he embraced catcher William Contreras. “There was no chance I was going to throw anything other than a heater right there. I was amped up,” he stated, showcasing his competitive spirit.

Misiorowski (8-2) achieved an impressive feat by completing the game without issuing a single walk, facing the minimum number of batters with a total of 95 pitches, 74 of which were strikes. This marked the first complete game for the Brewers since Brandon Woodruff accomplished the same against Miami on September 11, 2023.

“That was as good as it gets,” praised Brewers manager Pat Murphy. “To pitch a game like that against an offense like that with all those All-Stars over there, it was an incredible performance.” Misiorowski’s current form is remarkable; he holds a 0.17 ERA over his last eight starts and his 15 strikeouts are the highest recorded by any pitcher this season.

From the outset, Misiorowski was in control, striking out the side in the first inning. His prowess continued as he struck out Brandon Marsh to start the second, marking four consecutive strikeouts. He dominated the Phillies, fanning eight of the first nine batters he faced, hitting a maximum speed of 104.5 mph against Kyle Schwarber—recorded as the fastest pitch by a starting pitcher since the pitch tracking era began in 2008.

In addition to the record-breaking pitch to Schwarber, Misiorowski also clocked 103.5 mph against Trea Turner and 104.1 mph against Bryce Harper, all resulting in swinging strikes. These pitches represented the three fastest recorded strikeout pitches for a starter in the pitch-tracking era, including postseason play.

The Phillies managed their first hit of the game when Schwarber, the National League home run leader, lined a single to kick off the fourth inning. However, Misiorowski quickly regained control, striking out Turner and inducing an inning-ending double play, maintaining his dominance by facing the minimum number of batters.

Reflecting on the pitch that allowed Schwarber to break through, Misiorowski noted, “It was a backdoor slider that I located well, but maybe slightly off. I was trying to jump out ahead of him. He made good contact and poked it through. End of the story.”

Misiorowski’s strikeout of Marsh in the fifth inning marked the sixth time this season he reached 10 or more strikeouts in a game and the eighth time in his two-year major league career. His ability to maintain such performance levels has not gone unnoticed.

Phillies manager Don Mattingly succinctly summarized the challenge his hitters faced before the game. “You pretty much better be ready to hit the fastball. You don’t see guys like this often,” he commented. “We see more guys throw 100 mph or up in that range, but you don’t see guys that are consistent like him. If you can’t hit a fastball, you’re in big trouble.”

Manager Murphy emphasized Misiorowski’s growth over the past year, stating, “He’s consistent. His work between starts is consistent. He’s worked hard in the weight room. He’s worked hard building a routine. This guy loves the ball in his hand.”
