SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police arrested two suspects along Southwest Military Drive after the Spurs won the Western Conference Championship on Saturday night. The celebratory atmosphere following a significant sporting victory can sometimes lead to unexpected incidents, as evidenced by the events that unfolded shortly after the game.

The first incident occurred around midnight on Sunday, where an unidentified 42-year-old man was reported jumping on vehicles. This kind of behavior, while possibly intended as celebration, can pose safety risks for both individuals and property. An officer on the scene instructed the man to get down from one of the vehicles. However, in a concerning turn of events, the suspect allegedly pushed the officer to the ground. Fortunately, the officer was able to regain composure and disperse the crowd, after which the man was taken into custody.

Woman Allegedly Strikes Officer

Approximately an hour later, another incident unfolded involving 29-year-old Francis Cervantes. Officers were called to the scene due to a fight, where they instructed Cervantes to move her vehicle. In a moment of recklessness, she reversed her vehicle, striking a parked car and subsequently hitting an officer. Thankfully, the officer did not sustain any injuries, according to preliminary reports.

Cervantes’ refusal to comply with police instructions escalated the situation further. When officers attempted to have her exit the vehicle, she resisted, leading to a physical altercation with multiple officers before she was finally taken into custody. Subsequently, she was charged with resisting arrest, as documented in Bexar County court records.

SAPD Releases Statement

In light of these incidents, the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) released a statement urging fans of the Spurs to celebrate “responsibly and safely” following their playoff victories. Their call for responsible celebration is not merely a suggestion but a necessary reminder aimed at ensuring the safety of all citizens.

The SAPD articulated several safety tips for celebrations, which include:

– Always wear your seatbelt.

– Follow all traffic laws.

– Do not exit your vehicle on an active roadway.

– Avoid celebratory gunfire.

– Refrain from using fireworks.

– Do not light fires.

– Avoid sitting on top of moving vehicles.

The department emphasized that safety is their top priority, and they encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly. They concluded their statement with a reminder for the public: “If you see something, say something.”
