SAN ANTONIO – The North East Independent School District is facing a significant administrative change following the resignation of Amy Jane Reasons Copes, the principal of Cibolo Green Elementary. This decision comes in the wake of her recent arrest on a Class A misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury to a family member.
District officials confirmed the principal’s resignation in a message sent to parents on Tuesday. Assistant Principal Shaunte Gomez addressed the situation in a letter, clarifying that the incident in question stemmed from a “family dispute” that was unrelated to school activities.
Amy Reasons Copes, 52, was arrested on Sunday and subsequently booked into the Bexar County jail. The district expressed its commitment to cooperating with law enforcement during the ongoing investigation.
In light of this sudden change, former Cibolo Green principal Adam Schwab has been appointed as the substitute principal for the final week of the school year, ensuring continuity in leadership during this transitional period.
The district has also made resources available for those who may need support. Individuals experiencing emergencies are encouraged to text or call 911. For wrap-around services, including those offered by the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter, the Family Violence Prevention Services can be reached at (210) 733-8810. Additionally, the Bexar County Family Justice Center provides support at (210) 631-0100, ensuring that help is accessible to those in need.
