The nonprofit organization Project MEND successfully raised $5,800 during last year’s fundraising efforts, and this year, they are optimistic about surpassing that total. The funds raised are vital for purchasing essential medical equipment, including wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers. Such equipment is crucial for helping Project MEND maintain a well-stocked warehouse, ensuring quick distribution to those in need.
The donations collected will specifically help cover needs that are critical for improving mobility and independence among individuals with disabilities and illnesses.
Citywide Mobility Collection Drive
As part of its ongoing efforts to support the community, Project MEND will hold its annual collection drive on Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will be stationed at Wonderland of the Americas, located at 4522 Fredericksburg Road, just outside Hobby Lobby, to collect gently used medical equipment.
Once collected, the donated items will undergo a thorough evaluation, refurbishment, and sanitization process to ensure they meet state health and safety standards before being distributed to those who require assistance.
Among the most-requested items are mobility aids such as wheelchairs and walkers, which play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with mobility challenges.
For more information on acceptable donation items, scheduling a pickup, or registering for assistance, community members can visit Project MEND’s official website or contact them directly at 210-223-6363.
