This win gives the Knicks a commanding 2-0 lead in the series, showing a stark contrast to their previous game, a blowout win of 137-98.
Playing without star player Joel Embiid, who was sidelined due to injuries, the 76ers put on a much-improved performance. The game was intense, featuring 25 lead changes—the highest in a playoff game in over a decade—and 14 ties. Neither team was able to establish a significant lead, with the margin never exceeding seven points.
“Most importantly, it’s about staying poised and composed,” Brunson remarked after the game. “We just take it one play at a time, one step at a time, and not look too far ahead.” His calm demeanor proved pivotal as he scored the tiebreaking basket with just over five minutes left in the game, followed by another jumper to extend the Knicks’ lead to 103-99.
Knicks coach Mike Brown praised Brunson’s performance, noting, “They started switching a little bit and he got to his spots and scored a bucket, and that’s what he’s expected to do for us.” OG Anunoby also contributed significantly with 24 points, although he left the game late and did not return, raising questions about his health moving forward.
Karl-Anthony Towns added a strong performance with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, helping the Knicks maintain their momentum. With this victory, the Knicks have now achieved the remarkable feat of winning three consecutive postseason games by at least 25 points.

Embiid was ruled out with right hip and ankle injuries after experiencing soreness that prevented him from participating in the team’s morning shootaround. Despite his absence, the 76ers, who previously won without him in Game 2 against Boston, received notable contributions from Paul George and Kelly Oubre Jr., each scoring 19 points, and VJ Edgecombe, who added 17.
The turning point came when the 76ers led 99-96 following a 3-pointer from Oubre. However, Josh Hart, who had exited the game briefly due to an injury, made a crucial 3-pointer that shifted the momentum back to the Knicks.
“We had maybe four wide-open shots in a row that didn’t go,” lamented 76ers coach Nick Nurse. “We played great offense, we just didn’t make the shots.” The game’s intensity was underscored by the 25 lead changes, the most since a matchup between the Spurs and Clippers in 2015.
Maxey, who struggled in Game 1, showcased his skills in this game, scoring 19 points in the first half alone. The Knicks adjusted their defense in the second half, effectively limiting his impact, with Bridges stepping up defensively while also contributing 18 points on the offensive end.
As the series progresses, the Knicks look to leverage their momentum, while the 76ers must regroup and find a way to close the gap in the upcoming games.
