Laurel Ridge Treatment Center, situated at 7720 Corporate Woods Drive, has recently been stripped of its Medicaid and Medicare payment status by federal authorities due to serious safety violations. This decision raises significant concerns regarding patient safety and the operational future of the facility.
In a letter dispatched to employees on Monday, the management announced that layoffs will take effect on June 26, impacting approximately 648 staff members at the center. This abrupt move has left many employees apprehensive about their futures and the implications for patient care.
During a staff meeting held on the same day, employees were briefed about the layoffs. Jackson, an employee who attended the meeting, expressed uncertainty about which specific staff members would be affected. “Something with Medicaid, I don’t know. I really don’t understand why the layoff is happening. I got to do my research,” he stated, reflecting the confusion and concern among the workforce.
The letter to the staff also indicated that further information regarding pay, benefits, and state unemployment benefits would be communicated separately, underscoring the need for clarity during such a tumultuous period.
The report cited multiple safety violations at the facility, including the presence of unsecured items that could potentially be used for self-harm or create fire hazards. Such findings have prompted serious questions about the safety and well-being of patients at Laurel Ridge Treatment Center.
Effective April 30, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will cease payment for patients admitted to the facility, further compounding the challenges facing Laurel Ridge and its staff.
