BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the identities of two teenagers who tragically lost their lives in a car crash while trying to escape from law enforcement on Sunday morning.

The young victims, 16-year-olds Daymien Pablo Arriaga and Andrew Avery Salazar, suffered fatal injuries from the crash, which has been classified as an accident by the medical examiner.

The incident began around 4 a.m. when deputies were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of Blacktail Crest and Bonita Bend. Sheriff Javier Salazar reported that surveillance footage showed the teens entering driveways and testing car doors in the area.

When a deputy spotted their Toyota speeding away from the neighborhood, it was quickly confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle’s lights, but lost sight of the teens’ car.

Another deputy in the area also saw the same vehicle speeding northbound. As deputies attempted to catch up, they observed the Toyota crash in the 14800 block of Kallison Bend.

Upon their arrival at the crash site, deputies found both Arriaga and Salazar seriously injured, with one of them ejected from the vehicle. Sadly, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

In response to the incident, both deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in cases of custodial deaths. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an internal review, while the Internal Affairs Division and the Public Integrity Unit are also investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with reckless driving and the serious consequences that can arise from attempting to evade law enforcement. The community mourns the loss of these young lives and reflects on the importance of safety and responsibility on the roads.
